I totally TOTALLY agree on getting help to clean and serve. These are two areas I never allow for when throwing a party. I do most of the cleaning because the menfolk, well, they just don't SEE the mess so even delegating chores to them makes my job almost harder because now I have to monitor their AND my work. When we first moved into this house we sent out invites to 80 people for a housewarming party assuming the usual half would show up. Guess what? They ALL showed up and I literally never made it out of the kitchen all the while refilling food trays until a friend finally stepped in and said "GO! mingle, I'll do this for you", which was great. Oh, and don't forget a cleanup crew for afterward. You don't need to be cleaning up the mess until 3am either.

Wow, I can't believe it's been 3 years already, that's wonderful. I think your plans sound great, especially the parts where you let OTHER PEOPLE do the work while you enjoy the party. That's how it should be on your wedding day.

Hi, I totally feel like a lurker because I do not comment much (or at all) but I have been reading you for a while and I wanted to congratulate you on your upcoming nuptials. Me and my husband also had to do our wedding on a budget (it was a potluck wedding!) but it was lots of fun and I wanted to point out this website http://www.orientaltrading.com/ they have some wedding stuff that isn't very pricey. Good luck with all the planning!

Good for you for deciding to hire help with preparations to get the house wedding ready! I am especially envious of the landscaper. The poison ivy has me scared to death to touch anything in my back and side yard. Oh well, maybe after the girls are out of college...

Everyone tells a bride it's her day and then tries to wrestle it away from her. I love reading how the only compromises are ones that you and your guy decide upon. It sounds right!

So exciting! Something to keep in mind...what will be behind you when photos are taken? My little brother and sis-in-law got married at her parent's home. All the happy couple photos are standing right in front of a wall with pictures of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Elvis! Some in velvet! Hysterical! My own photo of The Big Nugget and I cutting our wedding cake (topped with magpies, Hekyll & Jekyll) is backdropped with The Big Nugget's parent's aquamarine porch walls. Ick! We cut corners and had a friend take photos for us. There are oodles of photos of my family and friends and about 3 of The Big Nugget's family and friends. Doh!
