His request was his way of acknowledging it, and perhaps even thanking you for it. As strong as you are being now, I hope you remember to nurture yourself and recover from the strain after the dust has settled.

When my mother was dying, my son didn't want to see her like that. He did make a quick trip because she asked for him. When my husband was dying, our son was there (of course he was a man by then). It never gets any easier no matter how much time you have and being the one everyone relies on is a very tough job too.
