Tell me all about it, dear...

Oh....no..... I know a bit of how you must have felt. We had a large bird population at our feeders at the big house...The chipmunks fed on the patio blocks below. There was a stray black cat that had the nerve to come out and pounce on little Chip and Dale right in front of us.....we love cats but we used the hose on that stray every chance we got. (the birds at the downsizer haven't been quite as plentiful this summer...hoping next year, the word gets out that we have feeders...but we get get a hummingbird or two).

I feel guilty every time mama cat brings us a "present," but I can't even begin to imagine what that kind of carnage would do to me!

Cats..... they are the smartest of the smart when it comes to opportunity so although you found the mess and felt like hell about it the damned cat would have done nearly as much on his own. My darling Kali has several corpses in residence outside the kitchen door, bird, chipmunk, and mouse. I hate when she brings me birds but the beast will be a beast and having the cat leaves me nothing but the need to accept. As for the blue jays, they nest in the damned forsythia all summer long here on the bottom the ridge. Have them and keep them for as long as you can because the dang things are very very noisy and nearly out do the horse sized crows we have out here

I've heard that the biggest threat to small birds are domestic cats. Ironically, where I lived in Wisconsin, it wasn't wise to let domestic cats out at night because the biggest threat to them were the owls. Adam's dad, who has been a high school principal for decades, once told me that the worst behaved kids are always named Angel. He said, "I don't know what it is about that name, but never name a kid 'Angel' unless you want to end up talking to the principal every couple of weeks." I can't imagine what it would be like to find all of those bird bones, though. I'm sure it was a terrible feeling.
