Tell me all about it, dear...

I've spoken to quite a few celebrities, but didn't have the nerve to speak to Stephen King when I stood next to him at a Springsteen concert. Did I ever tell you that David (my ex) had a thing with Pete Seeger's daughter back in their college days? People like Quasi - ugh. They turn my stomach. Last but not least, I LOVE that youtube clip! Really good stuff!

I try to reserve my snarky comments for creatures such as politicians (or perhaps the driver who cut me off). There is no need to dump on everyone around us... and especially no reason to dump on those who are friends and family. It costs nothing to be sure to say "thank you" to clerks and cashiers and the kid who bags my groceries. And then how much more important to say nice things to those we love.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....it's amazing to bring a smile to someone's face just for commenting on their hair or eyes or earrings when they are "serving" you at a store or restaurant. And saying Thank you with eye contact makes such a big difference....it's the little things that make all of us feel so much better, And, btw, retirement can be very nice when you spend it together but having private space is very good as well. I have a guy who can be very negative and I've called him on it....he is getting better....most of the time!

This has been a theme that's been coming up in my life a lot, lately, too. It's not because I've been running into too much negativity, though. It's the opposite. I've been hearing a lot of positive-focused statements, lately, and it's been making me think. It goes back to balance. If we swing wildly to one extreme or another, it distances us from the reality of the situation, so it's often used as a coping mechanism. There's been some research, lately, on the "power of negative thinking." Here's a video that explains it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOJL7WkaadY&feature=youtu.be

I make a conscious effort to be positive every day, though the past few days I hit a point where positivity wasn't going to fly. I'm trying not to let the one fly mess up the whole bottle of ointment though. On a different note - isn't it awesome to be with someone and imagine a future in which you still like one another? After all our horrendous past relationships? It makes us appreciate the kindnesses and kinship even more.
