Tell me all about it, dear...

Seems simple enough to me, but then I'm also a bit odd.

I think that most of us get into some kind of crazy mood when we're trying to cope with fear. I guess Mick's is obvious. Perhaps I live in some parallel bizarro universe or perhaps I'm just lucky. Everyone I know is like you. I don't know anyone who is hyper-competitive in the way you describe Mick, and I definitely don't know anyone who requires the threat of hell to be decent. I do have some Christian friends, but they've all managed to turn their faith into something beautiful, despite what the bible says. I DO totally get the disappointment of setting your own personal goals and not meeting them, though. That sucks a lot.

I was just looking back at your entry and I re-read that part about Mick pointing out bigger asses in Shoprite. I get the sense that he saw that you were hurting and he was desperate to make it better. Sometimes guys say really odd things because they've put so much pressure on themselves to be the ultimate problem solving hero 24 hours a day.

I don't understand the need to measure oneself against others, either. It truly boggles the mind. I'm not into religion, but if others get something out of it, bully for them. It's not my business what others choose to wear, do to their hair, how they vote, or who they love. Live and let live. What's so damned difficult about that??

You made some valid points and figured out a lot of things that work for you. I agree that we should just be thankful for what we have and try to help out others when we can. If everyone tried to mind their own business and stop pointing fingers or trying to control everyone else's decisions; it might be easier to get along.

I don't find you weird at all. Not by a long shot. I think you march to the beat of your own drummer and I think those around you need to validate that and honor that. From your writings I see you accepting those in your life differences and all. And there is nothing wrong with that. Maya Angelo says: "When you know better you do better" I would think that the reason you strive to be better is that you are learning all the time. Does that make sense?

This I get. I grew up in a ultra competitive world and I never could care if my softball team won. I was raised to think that it was VERY important to put the ELITE in elitist. There are several people in my family with Mick's outlook. I have wrestled with this dichotomy myself. I decided to let "the best" be the best, and just have my own fun being me. And no afterlife? Like, yer dead, wormfood, that's it?

And you are?
