Tell me all about it, dear...

A motherhood, such controversy. I was reading beloved Poolies Facebook about what her children would be like if she'd had them and smiled a broad smile because sometimes the kids, they just don't cooperate. Personally I found the cover picture a bit creepy and I think a large number of parents are overparenting but I remind myself regularly that I'm not the authority on squat. I do however, remember my favorite passage on parenting from a Mitch Albom book. He describes children as being a big sheet of glass. Some parents can't handle it and the glass gets chipped or cracked or at worst shattered. Those are tragedies, but even the most careful parents are bound to leave smudges and fingerprints.

There was a big thing here, years ago, called 'Good enough parenting', where there was an acknowledgement that parents are not perfect and that they shouldn't even try as part of growing up is learning to live with things not being perfect. xx

I had to look for the source of all the controversy and when I found it I was a bit disappointed. So, Time wanted to stir folks up. It worked. Like so many other things whether to breastfeed or not and how long if you do is a personal decision between parent and child. Nuf said Time sold some magazines at the expense of folks trying to find their way as parents - sheesh

My only wish is that you would posted a link on FaceBook to this blog posting. You hit most all of the points very well. We are influenced most by our own parents, our doctor and our friends. We learn how to work with our own child's personality and we hope that we do it mostly right. These subjects become triggers every few years as a new generation of parents try to figure out what is best. At the end, the best is what works for you most of the time.

I agree, LA... it's the people who have never been responsible for children of their own who are the first and most eager to tell everyone how to raise children.

There was one - someone on my FB feed linked to an article by a mom who was nursing her 4-year-old because the kid asked for it - she was undergoing chemo and couldn't keep anything else down, not even ice chips.
