Tell me all about it, dear...

I didn't leave home until I got married at age 20....never have lived by myself at all. I agree young people do have it rough as far as being able to support themselves. My son left home and shared an apt. with a friend from high school...after that he got his own place, ran up a bunch of bills, filed bankruptcy (with our help) and moved back home until he got another job and got his own place. Then he got married and they bought a house after a few years. I was glad he had us to fall back on but even more glad when he got back out on his own again.

At 19 I married - and we alternately lived with his parents or my parents intermittently after. We got our own place, but since my husband was allergic to responsibility and I couldn't keep us afloat alone when dealing with pregnancies, etc., it was our only option. So while it's not my first choice, I absolutely understand when my kids do the same.

LA, one thing I learned from my son was not to try to predict what a 14 year old male will be doing in a week, much less in 5 years. He will do what he will do, and he will be fine!

Living alone in an apartment was one of the happiest times of my life. My girls have been living in apartments for years, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll continue to be able to afford to do so. Of course, if necessary, I'd let them come back home, but I really hope it doesn't come to that, for their sake as well as mine.
