Tell me all about it, dear...

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but what if Mick had been a woman and the teacher a straight man? Since when is it ever appropriate to grab a stranger and call him/her, "Sweetie?" It's degrading and disrespectful. As for everything else, I enjoy your chattiness. I'm sorry that life took a slight down turn, but it wouldn't be life if it didn't. At least, if winter ever really comes, you'll be prepared.

Injustice and having to deal with what Mick did, makes me angry, especially when there is little you can do about it. I refused to take enough Regents classes to get that diploma. I took only enough math and non-lab sciences to graduate with the regular diploma as I was going to be "an artist" who was NOT going to SUNY and was NOT getting a teaching degree as my parents wanted me to. I was just a tad stubborn. I don't really regret much, a teaching certificate might have come in handy as I learned I was not cut out for the starving -artist bit.

Ah, that is exactly what I was afraid New York was doing to the once valuable Regents diploma. All students are Regents students is as idiotic as the idea that all students need to have a good college prep high school education. Yeah, right. And all baseball players need to be able to hit .300 against professional level pitching and all high school students should be able to run sub-five minute miles and be able to bench press their weight and play classical music on a violin. What a huge pile of b.s. (Oh, and sorry to hear about Mick's run-in the the politically correct bureaucratic idiots.)

I'm very angry for Mick's sake. That was inexcusable, period. I know in the current climate he can't afford to just walk away but I would love to see the media get ahold of the story. Or not, considering they'd probably be happy to play up the homophobe claims without anything to back it up. I hope this next week is vastly better for you and your family.

Sorry Mike was reprimanded when he didn't deserve it. So wondering if the teachers were told never to come back to that school again? Probably not. Bullies can be found in every aspect of life....and they probably thought how "cute" it was to get the big guy in trouble too.

As I was reading this I thought, "Good God, what if Mick had had a heart attack chasing those idiots?" Why weren't they chastised for blatantly ignoring the school rules? Why did they run? This story really pissed me off. Tell Mick that we agree - he did the right thing and they were being A-holes.

I live in the most "PC" capitol in the world, and have been subject to periods of unjust cruelty by an ethnic minority person in power, and there just was not much I could do about it. PC liberal control freak jargon is about as fascist as right-wing republicans. In retrospect I think unjust treatment happens to everyone, just straight white people less. Doesn't mean it's any less painful to deal with. I hope the letter has an expiration date and that the incident fades fast.

I am assuming that Mick knows what school they are at? Then he should go there and do the same thing to them, and see how THEY like it!

Well Goddess bless honey - you folks had a rough week. And those two damned queens trying to screw Mike out of his job? Ooo makes my blood boil. Does he have any kind of Union backing or someone in 'the system' that he can take this to for arbitration maybe? I'm sure you are thinking of all the damn angles to try and fix this if possible. I sure hope so.This whole event is wrong. Obviously I'm gay *nice to meet cha* and what got me was these two foolish men are probably the same ones demanding equality last week. And then to behave like that is unconscionable. Sorry, ranting a bit. So sorry Mick and La. And thanks you so much for bringing up the 'new' standard education package that you so justly stated has been just sabbotged and a real shame for the students who really are starving for a good education. I graduated from Flowing Wells HS in Tucson in 1978 and it had won awards for it's acedemics and we had a great education. It all changed in 1979 and they stared busing in kids from all over the city and the school basically turned into what amounts to a learning/prison. That school has scary tall wrough iron fences 9 ft tall around the entire perimter of the school with police everywhere on campus. Scary cold place to learn I tell ya. It's obvious that you were damned good in school because it shows in your words. You explain things so beautifully and the words illustrate the feelings you are sharing. I enjoy coming here to check in on you and see how my Internet family is doing. And the furnace and New TV? Three bad things in a row in a week...you should be OK for a good spell now. Power of 3 or something like that. Seems to work. I wish you a nice peaceful rest of the week at least. - John in Tucson
