Tell me all about it, dear...

I don't apologize for being an omnivore either. Man has been eating animals as long as he's been alive.. who am I to change it?

It's good to hear that you're getting to a place where you can unpack some of those old experiences. It should be worthwhile and useful, and I hope not too painful. Melancholy and weird? And here, I thought I'd cornered the market on that.

We made the conversion to a fake tree (an all white, very fake, tinsel-y tree) at Christmas 2008. I'd gotten in my mind that I really wanted one, and ventured out, on the city bus no less, in what passes in Portland, Oregon as a blizzard. With two girls--a tween and a teen--in tow. Many hours and many, many blocks walked through knee-deep snow later, I had my tree. Now we have a nice story about our trek through the snow to procure our tacky little tree. It's actually a pretty nice Christmas memory!

I only care about how my food was raised in so far as it determines how my food tastes. In my experience free range does generally taste better so I figure it is worth the extra dollar, besides which I rarely eat meat so I might as well enjoy what I do have. I guess NZ lamb probably doesn't make it to your local store! Enjoy the lamb chops and good writing with the book! Hugs Bels

By the way, how do you feel about me linking to you at my new place? I know that you've had issues with online bullies, so I don't want to put you out there too much, if you're looking to lay low.

Good luck with the book writing...it does take its toll on the memories and brings up much more than you realize you are holding inside. But it helps... Your way of working with a child and his issues can certainly be helpful to others.....

You might be interested in reading Sara Hall's Drawn to the Rhythm, which is about rowing, becoming more herself as she became more connected to her body through sport, and getting out of a bad marriage at the same time. I mean, obvs you have very different stories but in another way you've gone through similar journeys and seeing how she documented hers might be useful research to you in writing yours. At least, I have a feeling there's a very good book in writing out your own journey as a woman and a parent rather than something that's more of a pure advice bok. It might even be more useful to other parents that way.
