Tell me all about it, dear...

Glad that you got through the swamped basement. Smart to fill up pots with fresh water. We used to save milk jugs and keep on hand for flushing toilets during power outages. Haven't had to do that for years....thankfully.

I'm glad that everyone is ok and the worst of it was just a wet basement.

WOW ! I am so sorry that you folks had to put up with that mess in the basement. God bless Mick for his strength and fortitude to keep on a bailin'. We went through that at our house in Michigan one summer. Mom left the water running in the butler tub at the head of the basement stairs and we went up to the lake for 4 days. Came home to 3 feet of water in a HUGE basement. 20 neighbors showed up and ran a bucket brigade while Granny cooked for everyone. We had to sink a new well that next week. Very expensive lesson to learn on my Mothers' part.

My cousin had a seriously flooded basement and the the fire department pumped them out. I never would have thought to call them, but one of the firemen told Kathy they had 87 more basements to deal with. So, maybe that's something to keep in mind if you have that problem again. I'm counting my blessings over here. Other than my neighbor's uprooted tree and a few decapitated amaranths from my garden, I didn't see any damage. It appears that I put my back out for nothing, but better safe than sorry, I guess.

Wow! I'm glad Mick shed his panicky shell and emerged a superhero! We lost power for almost exactly 24 hours - we coped by going out to eat in a lit part of town. Other than that, no damage - just leaves and litter. And the OC house did fine too, or so I hear!

I am so happy to hear that Mick was able to do the bailing and save your house from further damage, and that you were able to stay calm through the fray.

I am really starting to wonder about this old world, with Earthquakes in the East, heavy freezes in Arizona, hurricanes where they usually aren't...I'm worried about our tropical storm season now coming in September...I wouldn't be surprised if something untoward happens here, too.

All we can do is stay resilient...that, and hunt down the SOB who cursed us with "May you live in interesting times!"

Yayy Mick!!! Considering a gallon of water is 8 lbs, I am quite impressed. Glad you are all okay. Mike's mom in CT rode it out at a friends house. Luckily her power stayed on and she had just installed drain tile so she was fine.
