We grew up having dessert even when it sometimes wasn't very good. But I have to say I detest graham cracker crust pie......I always loved graham crackers but just hated that crust..

You cant get ready made graham cracker crust here. Our Digestive Biscuits are similar to Graham Crackers and I make my own with those (and I think pretty much everyone over here does too!). For key lime pie I use the ones that are coated on one side with dark chocolate - dont know if you have those Chocolate Lime hard candies over there but it kind of gives that same choccy/limey vibe. YUM! s x

I have the sweet tooth in the family. I cook dinner and try to keep that interesting too; but if I don't have dessert I end up grazing all night long AFTER dinner, even though I'm not really hungry.

I made key lime pie a couple of times, but, in this house, Daniel doesn't eat stuff like that, so I don't bother much any more. That's pretty much true for cooking in general. David would eat anything, so I enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, with good results. Daniel likes more standard fare, and I've grown bored with cooking, and have even come to dislike it intensely.

I am a food Luddite. Probably a whole bunch of other Luddites too, but definitely food.

We wait for dessert too, and only have it after family dinners that only happen about once a week when my son #1 can make it up. Then we wait until after the table is cleared, the dishes loaded into the dishwasher and everyone has had some time to get up, move around, digest etc. And Son#1's fave dessert IS a toss up between apple and key lime pie so that is what he gets for his birthday or special occasion, ie: graduating HS , college, the police academy, get sworn in as a deputy etc., so not that often. I make the apple as I have apples in jars from my trees, but the Key Lime I buy the Edwards brand as it is awesome and I can pick one up when I see them on sale and pop it into the deep freeze for whence it is needed. I have never made one and would be afraid to try to match the Edwards, it is that good. And don't bother trying the Sara Lee or Marie Callender's. They pale in comparison all runny and goopy and not near limey enough. MY fave is just a little dark chocolate though.
