Tell me all about it, dear...

thank you. the news of bin laden's demise didn't bring out the patriotic pride in me that everyone else seems to have. his death makes no difference to me, it doesn't undo the falling of the towers, or the highjacking of the planes and i only shudder to think what the rest his cronies are going to do in retaliation.

The whole thing is going to get even worse now. The world is a sad place.

I heard a lot of radio interviews all day, and one with the wife of a first responder echoed what you said. She and her husband both said that the cheering crowds reminded them both of the cheering crowds on the other side on 9/11. She said she's glad OBL can't hurt anyone else now, but otherwise, sees no cause for jubilation. Ditto.

Well put, la.

I agree with Poolie - I immediately thought to myself " Oh god it's now going to be payback time again ". Glad OBL is gone but all of the jubilation is disgusting.

I hope the people who lost loved ones feel the same sense of closure that capital punishment brings for victims but I am like you, death is death and I don't celebrate it, even when the worst of us dies. I wish people were more somber, using this time to remember loved ones instead of reveling in childish glee. Such a sad picture of how far we haven't come.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." - Martin Luther King, Jr

Agreed on the rejoicing. We are supposed to be better that. Disagree on the trial and justice. There would be no real justice there. His conviction was a forgone conclusion. No need to bring him forth the American public so he could gloat and make statements to his followers. He would have been a bigger PIA sitting in a jail cell then he is dead. Also, he did not want to die a martyr for his cause. If he did he would not have been hiding for the last ten years. He wanted to be alive and fancy himself as some kind of liberator of the Arab people. Government was brilliant in dumping his corpse to the bottom of the sea. Deny those bastards from having a place of worship over him.

I'm so glad you said this. I was thinking and reacting the same way when the BIG announcement came on tv on Sunday night. All it means to me is that one evil man is dead but the terrorists who have studied under him are alive and well and even more determined to kill everyone. I expect there will be severe retailiation very soon. God help us if they have nuclear power...
