I would also blow my nose on hundred dollar bills, but NOT on the ones I (like you) leave as tips for breakfast waitri. ;-)

After four years of breakfast waiting I say thank you for thinking of us. In 25 years little has changed for the serving industry, we still get paid less than half the minimum wage and if you work a swing (10 hours) you might make 100 in tips. Hard for the money is right.

We always tip well. The places we go often know that we preclear our table and say thank you. We understand if things are busy. If there is a wait we don't dawdle - of course this might be why we get better service than the average joe. If a waitress can keep up with our coffee or iced tea consumption we tip accordingly. Heck - we still tip 10 - 15% for average service. Rare is the time we don't overtip. We don't dangle it as a carrot, but we know it is hard work and appreciate when we don't have to cook it and clean it!

My first waitressing job was at a litle silver diner in Lake George, The Prospect Mtn Diner, for those familiar with the locale. I could not eat eggs for years after that. People ate eggs all day long because it was a diner and that's what you do at a diner.Dealing with the customer "these eggs are over done!" AND the line cook "Them eggs is perfect!", while hew tried to refuse to re-do them, was always fun. I did learn how to carry several platters at a time on my arms though. No sissy trays for us at the diner. One time the owner sent me into the adjacent Chinese restaurant he also owned for the dinner rush. I had no idea what anything looked like that people were ordering so I just set it all down on the table and let them figure it out.Which is what my family does anyway.

Brings back memories of my days at C@shWi$e in the deli ringing up taking breakfast orders, delivering them to the tables and other days I was the cook. Man are people fussy about their eggs. Luckily they could get their own free coffee. I always tip as well as I can afford when I eat out, and make a point to leave the table as neat as possible. Food service is very hard work
