Tell me all about it, dear...

I'm still kind of on the fence about the issue of "God"... I kind of go along with the theory of several gods, but for the most part, I agree with you. Gods do not plan our day to day lives, those are what we make of them, and how we raise our children is up to us, not any god. Overcoming a sucky childhood is our own deal. I think you've done well!

Raised Roman Cahtolic and went i nfor the pageantry for many years. I just find it hard to believe that in our enlightened age we still need "someone" to be in charge of us. It's dangerous words these days though, not to believe. I believe, as I've said before, in Serendipity, that good things happen perchance and you'd better appreciate and make the best of them when they do. Then there are the things you worked hard for, YOU, not some unseen Big Head in the sky. Enjoy them, share them, be good to others because it's the right thing to do, not because some tablets told you to. I believe in the (mostly) goodness of people, and truly most of us are, good, that is, percentage wise anyway. If people need it , fine, I just don't, and I don't need to give an institution money every week to spread the word...to be good to one another. I think we can accomplish this on our own, by, ya know, doing it ourselves.

LA, I have to admit that I'm too scared to think there may not be something else after our life here on earth, but I DO NOT believe that everything happens for a reason. That thought is just bullshit. There's a reason a child is raped or burned or beaten????No, I don't think so! There's a reason for elder abuse? There's a reason for floods or AIDS or one car auto accidents on sunny dry days?? Hell no. I agree with you - shit happens.

I'm with you, life is random and shit happens, everyday. I can't get with a God who has less compassion and forgiveness than I do. I HATE when people suggest that without a belief in God you have no morals. I have intellect so that is what separates me from the animals. And morals are obvious to humans because of intellect, not because some invisible sky man says so.

And you are?
