Tell me all about it, dear...

I will read any genre, but I tend always to go back to sci-fi/fantasy. I started on that when I was 12, and it will always be my favorite. I do tend to buy books that come as series, that way the story lasts so much longer!

I'm with beanie, i'm always scoping the sci-fi/fantasy for new book by favorite authors. my all-time fave is the mercedes lackey's valdemar books, i've re-read those so many times i can't count them.

I let the books pick me - kinda like puppies at the pound. I set them out and let them work their magic. Which ones entice? I also read the first page. If they haven't got me by then, chances are I won't hang. The only exception has been the Millenium Trilogy books. I had a hard time getting into the first book, but I was stuck with it. It was the only book I had on the plane for a 3-hour flight. So I pushed through the first 60 pages or so and then....WHAMMO! I read anything but sci/fi. And, like you, I read old faves over and over. Reading "The Grapes of Wrath" again for the third time. I have no idea how many times I have read "To Kill a Mockingbird."

I pick books by the synopsis on the jacket or by the first page....sometimes even the title draws me in. I look for books by favorite authors but I also have been picking up a lot of first time novelists lately. I still prefer stories about generations of families but I recently got some mysteries too. I did enjoy WENCH......hope you do too.

I'm with Beanie and Michele, I tend to Sci-fi and fantasy. Once upon a time, I read anything BUT Sci-fi; I thought I would hate it, but after a class in college introduced me to the best in the genre, I was irretrievably hooked. Lackey, McCaffrey, Heinlein, Feist, Card and Moon are my go-to authors.

Anything to do with Little House books also gets me going, as do historical fiction and biographies. Nowadays though, most of my reading is done online, whether I'm reading old stories which are now in the public domain, or the true-to-life, can't make this shit up drama of other people's diaries and blogs. I especially like to go back and re-read my own diary. Goodness to Goddess, how the hell did I survive to this point?

What did you think of The 19th Wife? Like Poolie, I often let books pick me, although I do pay attention to personal recommendations.

Usually mysteries, some smattering of sci fi or fantasy, an occasional romance (sort of the non-fat pint of Ben & Jerrys when I need it). I have the go to authors (Tim Dorsey, Carl Hiassen, Brian Wiprud) or the random catch my eye. My last memorable read was "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" - very nice.

I like all genres, though I have a soft spot for sci-fi, action adventure. Usually a book just calls to me.

I will read anything except the typical "girl meets boy, girl hates boy, boy overwhelms girl with his devilish charm, girl loves boy but thinks he hates her, boy loves girl and they live happily ever after" stories. I swear they make my eyes bleed and my head explode. My favorite genre is mystery - mostly comedic murder mysteries. When I find an author I like, I tend to go back and read everything they've written. When we were in Boston, my nephew introduced me to John Sandford's Prey series. They're a bit darker than what I usually read, but are so well written, I find myself (like you at B&N) completely unaware of anything/anyone around me.
