Tell me all about it, dear...

That was the most touching story I've heard in a long time...and the most appropriate September 11th tribute I've heard so far. I'd take that over the facebook statuses with their "Never forgottens" and animated waving American flags any day.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is a media circus. Yes, the country (and much of the world) is sorry for the victims families, but only the relatively few who actually lost someone can know what it is really like. True grief is what is felt in private, away from the TV cameras. And each one is private and personal. And each one is different. And yes, us Brits do cope with things like that better :-) Apart from the death of Princess Di, where we lost the plot a bit.

Very well put dear lady. So sorry that you lost a comrade-in-arms in such a tragic display of humanity at it's worst. I don't need to see the crying eagle or American flag at half mast either to remember 09/11/2001 simply because I watched the whole thing from it's start on the television that morning while getting ready to go to work. Just awful. I still think that Bush had his filthy hands in the whole thing from the get-go, but that is just my opinion. RIP to all that suffered and lost loved one's on that day... - John in Phoenix

I plan to remember by not giving into hate and I refuse to give the terrorists what they want. I plan to live my life and do my best to allow others the same priveldge regaardless of which Holy book they choose to follow. I plan to remember that everyone of those victims was a human being with a family, friends and countless loved ones, not a number or a soundbite.

Your story is the truth. All the media hype, all the insane buckets of crocodile tears turn black and ashy when contrasted with truth. The truth is that countless lives were destroyed that day: either snuffed out, or ripped away from loved ones. It should be a day of respectful mourning, perhaps - but not the circus it has become.

Thank you for sharing. I'll hold your story in my heart. I managed to avoid the media altogether on this 9/11. I once asked a politician when 9/11 would become a national holiday. He told me that he hoped it never would, because then it would become like another Memorial or Labor Day...an excuse to eat and get drunk on a paid day off from work. He said Americans no longer see holidays as any kind of remembrance...just a day to party with our friends. How sad, but true.
