Tell me all about it, dear...

What a horrid age for children. I've said before, I'd dig ditches rather than teach in a middle school. And the ones in your own house aren't so pleasant either, as I recall. Nevertheless, I think your choice of school for Wolf is 100% right on, for all the reasons you laid out. He can't see it now and maybe not ever, but middle school is so awful (and for everyone, as you noted) and freshmen in high school are generally so surprised at how wonderful and different it is that they shape up as soon as they can and love it there. (Well, maybe not love.) He can think of this as his cocoon year. One year from today he'll be ready to emerge as the butterfly he is.

Well, add me to the, "Eighth grade is horrible, HORRIBLE for anyone, anywhere who has the misfortune of living through it," side of the list. There is nothing to make a person feel more like an "other" than being 13. What's worse than being 13? Being 13, and trapped in a builing full of other 13 year olds who are also pissed off because they have "unfair" lives. Wolf is very lucky to have a good mother who cares more about his well-being than being well-liked.

You made a wise choice and I am sure that Wolf will have a great year...in spite of thinking he NEEDS to be at the regular school. Hope you can avoid all the drama that regular school brings for another year.

Middle school is the worst invention of our educational system....EVER!

Good for you La - you certainly made the same choice for Wolf that I would have. Jr. High (7th-8th grades) are so horrible to go through. You have the kids going through the changes into becoming physically mature for the most part, and those that Peak first generally turn into the wanna-be's going into High school. I HATED jr high and like most of us, just kept to myself because everything seemed so confusing to me. Good ol' hormones in action LOL. Wolf will be just fine with your continued guidance. It wouldn't suprise me that Wolf has a major following in High School as the Guy that everyone wants to have as his best friend. John in Phoenix

Funny... when Dude and Flow were here, they both agreed when Flow said, "If you don't hate your parents at some point when you are a kid, your parents did something wrong!" Neither of them believe in being "friends" with your children, they both believe in discipline and limits. I was surprised and glad to hear them say that!

Gotta love that Mark Twain! By the way, I go back to work on the 7th, but the students don't start until the 13th.
