Tell me all about it, dear...

Same here on the L & O front, love NCIS but have seen so many that there are very few I haven not seen, apparently, but if I were David McCallum and I walked into find a pile of red jello on my autopsy table that time, I would just burst out laughing. They really must wrack their brains to find new ways of killing people and dismembering bodies on the show, as in the wood chipper episode. Criminal Minds often too creepy. Elaine Bracco as the Mom is ridiculous on R & I, so yeah, White Collar is OK but not enough hook for me, Covert Affairs, meh, Burn Notice, still good. I love the narrative on how to be a spy and who doesn't like Sharon Glass?

Have you looked at Cold Case? It's not the best show, but it captured my attention. They solve old cases by probing the history and interviewing whoever they can, or finding old records. You rarely see the actual crime, just what leads up to it and then the dead victim, and they usually solve the crime by getting someone to confess. I enjoy it, especially the flashbacks to the time the crime was committed. Lots of music in this show, too.

I like Bones but it isn't a traditional "crime" drama. The lead character is a forensic anthropologist specializing in the study of, yes you guessed it, bones. Sometimes it's a bit far flung but mostly the science is real and the characters are well acted. I have recently become fond of Lie to me. A little House=esque it is still interesting so far. Nothing else holds my interest as I am put off by the "horror movie" quality of the crime dramas now a day, too.

I only ever watched LOCI. Vincent D'Onofrio caught my attention in season one and I never looked back. I really miss him on the show, Jeff Goldblum just doesn't do it for me, and now he's done too. I agree with purple chai, Cold Case is a pretty good show.

There's "Castle" -- okay, so it is somewhat lightweight compared to most of the ones that have been listed and is played somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but it's fairly entertaining... especially compared to most television programming (which seems determined to prove Sturgeon's Law was an underestimate).

Our answer was to buy (about $99) a PAL (Region 2) DVD player and buy DVDs from the UK. They have the best crime dramas of anyone. One especially good series we are working our way thru now is called "Silent Witness" - it's just what you'd love. Forensic drama starring Amanda Burton who is the lead forensic pathologist for series 1-7, but it continues up thru I think series 13 so far. The cast changes a lot but it's fabulous. There are so many more. Just go looking on amazon.co.uk. "Trial & Retribution" is another A#1 series (long) to get stuck into. The choices over there are endless.

Two of my favorites are oldies: Homicide, Life on the Street is still my favorite cop show. There are episodes out on DVD. The other one I enjoyed immensely was The Shield. It just ended last year, but also has episodes on DVD. Enjoy!

I'm such a non-fiction person, I watch the real thing in docu-shows such as Forensic Files, American Justice, Dr. G Medical Examiner, and the actual docu-show of Cold Case Files. TV dramas just don't do it for me at all.

I can't help because, since the end of Lost, the only prime time show I watch is House.

Oh yes, I do like Cold Case ( not to be confused with Cold Case Files- the real cases being solved by real cops with no cool music or flash backs). But, I am running into the same problem, starting to find that I have seen most of those too now.

I enjoy mystery/crime shows as well. I have watched many of the Criminal Minds and suggest that you watch a few more before you give up on it. Yes, some of them are too dark and gory, but a lot of them (especially the older ones with Mandy Patinkin) are more about solving the crime and finding the "unsub" than showing the actual crime. I also like the comedic mystery/crime shows such as Monk, Psych and Castle. Some newer shows that we're trying out are White Collar, Covert Affairs and The Glades. I hope you find a show or two that you like. Take care! P.S. I can't remember if I let you know...I closed my DL blog and started a new one on Wordpress. This new blog is mostly about travelling with my husband in our semi.

Im not a telly watcher, but I was going to suggest maybe seeing if we have something over here that might do the trick. We love a good crimmi here - maybe try Cracker (with Robbie Coltrane) if you can? Oh, and I totally agree about the violence to women/kids plotlines. I just cant see that as entertainment, somehow - especially not with all the (too real) closeups and prolongued agony. *shudder*. s x

Let me know if you get the thingy to watch UK stuff - I am a telly addict and there is so much cool shit that you'd love. I didn't comment before as I have no idea what's on your TV, but if you're going DVD's then The Wire, which is like a five act play, fucking monumental, assumes an intelligent viewer, awesome. Over here we have a thing called 'Lovefilm' which is a postal DVD rental. For a couple of quid a month you can watch as many as you like, including box sets. Do you have that? xxx

The other one I like is Lie To Me. Not a cop show but definitely copish. The whole solve a mystery but by reading the people not the evidence.
