Tell me all about it, dear...

I usually prefer non-Starbucks coffee shops, but when I am in a Starbucks I always order small or medium or large in plain English rather than use their pretentious nomenclature. Here in New England if you want just plain coffee (rather than espresso or cappuccino) you can do better at a McDonald's because they serve Newman's Own coffee. We discovered last autumn -- to our extreme displeasure -- that this does not extend to New York State... pulled into a McD's just off 17 somewhere around Liberty and ordered coffee, got back in the car and onto the highway and took a sip. Absolutely undrinkable crud. The next day, heading back home, stopped at McD's near Monticello and asked "Don't you still carry Newman's Own coffee" and got an uncomprehending stare. Fortunately there was a nearby Dunkin' Donuts. However, if you are ever in Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Massachusetts, you can actually get drinkable coffee at McDonalds.
