Sneakers will always be used even if you stopped going to the gym. For future reference, I understand that New Balance shoes are made in the US. I am getting down to needing a new pair. I have always worn reeboks, but I am going to check out New Balance first this time.

I really only know running shoes, but that's what I always used to wear for gym workouts as well as for just plain running. After they've gone through their quota of running miles, they become everyday shoes. I've been wearing Brooks running shoes for probably the past fifteen years or so because their shoes seem to work for me. Other people swear by other brands; it all depends on what works for your feet. There's a rule of thumb that says a pair of running shoes is good for 300 to 500 miles of running. I don't know if running on a treadmill might make shoes last longer or not. My daughter bought a pair of Vibram Five Fingers -- they're like gloves for your feet -- supposed to give you the benefits of barefoot running while protecting your feet. She only wears them when she's doing relatively short runs; if she goes out for a long run she still wears running shoes.

That's one of my biggest complaints about workout gear, and especially shoes, for women. So few manufacturers of sporting goods have figured out that women are not just men who wear smaller sizes. We don't want to wear ugly, boxy, stupidly colored, bumper cars on our feet. However, I am glad you were able to find something. Those are cute shoes. Also, if you're not doing shin-splint stretches, you might want to look into giving those a try.

congrats on finding shoes whose style warrants your wearing of them. I got a pair of fairly ugly New Balance shoes a year ago and am so grateful that I can now walk without too much pain...of course if they came in a great red color or had some pink on them, I would LOVE them even more.

Oh Lord, the workout outfits that I've had that never got the workout they were meant to have...and then I "grew" out of them! Love the sneakers!

Asics also makes not-ugly ones (though they definitely look like running sneakers) that are specifically designed for shin and knee issues.

And you are?
