Tell me all about it, dear...

I am with you there. If I had to find a job outside the home at this stage of life, I would not want back into the corporate world for anything. In fact at one point after my first was born and I was looking for a job-job, not a career, I was applying for day jobs I wouldn't have to worry about after 4 or 5 pm , no weekends etc, just a nice little job. Guess what? They were reluctant, didn't think I would be happy doing payroll for 20 people instead of managing a hotel with 2 bars and a restaurant, I was overqualified, I wouldn't be happy etc. But really, if I had to I would maybe apply at the school district for something simple, aid, cafeteria worker, campus aid or maybe a little local shop close by. These days though I don't know how easy that would be.

Yes mam, I am retired for 3 years and thinking I should be doing something productive...then that thought passes and I am grateful I can be at home and do what I want for the most part. I have a friend who has been working at Hobby Lobby for about 18 months now. She used to be in corporate America like I was and had a lot of responsibilities. She would prefer a better paycheck and some bennies but she is surviving on this job...even got a full-time offer there a year ago.

A nicely pleasant no brainer job sounds mighty good to me. By the way, I'm jealous about the Quickstraw McGraw! I haven't seen that show in many, many years!

So sorry that you and Wolf are going through the cold/snot fest. My hubbie and I have been dealing with it for almost 3 weeks now and all I can say is ENOUGH already. Jeebus Marcy and Josephina. Lots of Dayquil and Theraflu and tons of Orange juice seem to keep us feeling sorta OK for the most part but still.....ENOUGH already. I've been out of work since June of 2009 (thank you Bank of America...schmucks) and at this point on food stamps and praying for state provided healthcare. Not getting a regular paycheck is a scary thing. Thank god that my Hubby has an income or we would be screwed royally. Hang in there sweetie - I just know that some day soon your writing will take off in a BIG way and the bucks will roll in for you. Your writing is what keeps regulars like me coming back daily just so we can get our La fix. Keep writing and the writing for pay will come. I just KNOW it. I hope you and Wolf recover from this cold-thing in record time. In the meantime I am sending you a wave of "Be comfortable and rest easy" thoughts. A big hug to you La. - John in Phoenix

I would love to retire and work in a bookstore. I guess that doesn't sound like retiring.

I sympathise and agree with you. I do have a full-time worky thing that pays the bills (just about) but it's fairly high stress, and I'd love to just hang and tidy things.
