Tell me all about it, dear...

Oh honey, I'm so sorry. Good thing I'm not going with you because I'd give Alex a hearty smack upside the head for being such a shit to you. Obvs the gal he's marrying isn't all that and a bag of cheetos, either. Wear your pearls. You earned them, dammit. The bride will always be the bride but "nobody puts Baby in the corner." You're the mother of the groom and you deserve a part of the spotlight too. Big hug and much love. -J

Maybe this will be the start of healing between you two.

Wear your pearls! When Big Sister was the mother of the groom, she tried to wear some really old shoes. Both soles fell off right before the wedding started! It was GREAT! I don't suggest you do anything like that, but if adventure calls....you just gotta answer sometimes! And trust me, you could wear a flour sack and you would NEVER look like a nerd!

Definitely wear the pearls. Kiss the bride, hug your son, and wish them well. You won't regret it.

Go for it with the pearls. It is an event afterall and deserves a little snazz. No offense but I really don't think you can do nerd. Just my opinion of course but..... no I can't see it

Hey, there was supposed to be a GRIN at the end of that comment and it didn't come through so here it is BIG GRIN!

I am sure you will look great. Must be rough being the MIL. Hang in :)

I hope he shocks you, in a good way. You never know, sometimes marriage turns people into Groomzilla, but sometimes it makes them think hard. And yeah, wear the pearls. Pearls are discreet, and say you're taking it seriously. (And I figure following Bozoette's advice, among others, is generally a good way to go.)

I agree, wear the pearls!! seems like Alex is worse than Mike... I don't wonder where he learned it.

I agree with everyone else, wear the pearls! Pearls are classic and scream, "I'm taking this seriously and must look the part." Besides, they're pretty...and I've always felt that little bit of string and calcium carbonate around the neckline gives me a bit of extra strength when dealing with a difficult situation. I hope it does the same for you! *Hugs* darlin, you need 'em!

I agree, wear the pearls. Besides then he might remember that his wife "might" get those pearls someday....LOL! Actually, I think you should go in the classy way you usually do and rock his ass.....so what if he is put out that his bride is intimidated by you. Sounds to me like he might be trying to control her too! He needs to grow up and some day he will realize that his mama is the one who could help him do just that.

I think that suit is pretty and it will be even prettier on YOU. And, by all means, do wear the pearls!

Well, I don't see anything wrong with the pearls, so I'll go along with everyone else on that. And you have to go, because part of you will love seeing Alex happy and you deserve that and you earned the right to be there. As for his obvious brainwashing ... ach. One day he will wake up and see what an asshole he's been to you, so don't close the door on him yet. And his wife-to-be doesn't like it that you're prettier than she is? Who has the issues here? What kind of crap is that?

I love your attitude in dealing with Alex. It PROVES you are a wonderful mom. You are doing everything exactly right, IMHO--not that I've ever been a mom, but I've observed a lot, and that has to count for something. And wear the pearls!

If any outfit needed pearls, that suit does, even WITH the saintly dickie attached. Pearls are quite respectable and demure and how many there will be able to tell they are real anyway? Actually I have the same suit but it has some white piping trim instead of the dickie. I got it for the same type of events, church type things, weddings, baptisms , stately dinners, things like that. I can't imagine what Alex's married life will be like if his bride is so intimidated by her MIL at the get-go. His will be a bumpy ride, I'm afraid.
