Tell me all about it, dear...

I'm betting what he felt was relief. Mick's not perfect (you know, being human and all) and he's smart and humble enough to know it. So in the early days of your relationship, he was probably thinking, "She's gorgeous, she's talented, she's competent, and she knows everything .... no way she's going to stay with me." I'm betting he cherishes every imperfection that lets him know you're *both* human and therefore on each other's level.
Go on, ask him. If you were any closer I'd bet a pan of brownies that I'm right.

Some people who are stuck in a negative pattern for over 20 years never recover. Not because they're bad at it or they don't want to, but because it's really, really hard. Your progress is admirable and it should be one more thing to make you proud.

one thing I know for sure is that a Real man wants to be the one you go to when you are upset, scared, need encouragement, need a hug, reassurance and nothing makes him happier than to be able to do something for you. I know you have a real man....

Sounds like Mike didn't want to take any responsibility so he wouldn't have to take any blame if it went wrong. That way he made you both servant and whipping boy. Mick on the otherhand is a mature real man who realizes nobody is perfect and that sometimes inperfections are what make us who we are. You got a great catch.

It's hard to trust anything after years of abuse -- Mick knows it's going to take a long time. But you can, and you will. He's lucky; you're lucky. MWAH!

I work as a server at a restaurant, 50,000 miles away from you. Today there was a couple there that looked just like you and mick. Just. like. To the point where I had to ask them their names JUST to make sure. I felt like I was about to meet a celebrity. It was almost exciting.
