Back in the evil, bad old conservative days, when women were really no better than slaves a woman who wished a divorce was taken care of financially. The man was forced to pay a healthy sum of alimony and child support. You would have practically automatically gotten the house. Now in the new, wonderful times for women, a woman is just about as likely to be awarded a living sum for alimony as she is to be awarded a free liposuction. The house? Sold and split in this wonderful new era. Just fyi.

In my experience people who talk about the old days are often not students of history. Back in the somewhat older days, in the rare cases when a couple was divorced the man automatically got custody of all children. Back in the really old days, when marriage made two people one and that one was the man, a women could not get a divorce no matter what was done to her. In the somewhat more recent days when alimony was more substantial, by the way, it was so only so that the children would have a decent standard of living because very few women could earn any sort of living wage. PS. Why shouldn't the house be split? Is there any other way that's fair to both parties? Or doesn't fairness to men matter too?

i find it sad that a lot of the very good "traditional values" are lost and only the negative ones come to the fore. traditional values, to me, means focusing on family, morals, loving and supporting one another, the whole idea of being fair and just, and of putting in a full day's work for a full day's pay. why can't they focus on THOSE "traditional values" where everyone benefits, instead of the ones where it's all about power?
