Because there are always good things, even when there's vast fields of crap. Wolf's room is clean. It took 6 big trash bags and all afternoon but you can see the floor and the desk and the wall of bookcases actually has a bit of shelf space now for new stuff. Mick's haircut came out good. (Yes he let me near him with clippers and really pointy scissors. How brave is this guy?) Through extreme diligence (and that neither the a/c nor the heat is running) I managed to cut my utility bill in HALF from the previous billing cycle's total. My MIL made me a hat. She never realized people's heads come in different sizes so we laughed and laughed when the supposed-to-be rolled brim cloche sat on top of my huge pumpkin head looking just like Charlie Chaplin's derby. She's making me another hat, this one will be much larger. Rainbow-y pale blue nail polish. Mick thinks it's hot. I think it makes my hands look like a drowned corpse's. My record setting 13-day period seems to finally be over. Thanks to the resultant menstrual anemia and otherwise lousy health I am personally leading the campaign to re-establish Heroin Chic as this season's Hot Look. My hands don't have exclusivity on looking like the dead. However since we last spoke: My coffee maker died. The toaster oven caught fire. The cat peed on my favorite pashmina. The toilet overflowed…twice. The inner front door's knob stripped out and we spent two days going in and out via the backdoor and having to walk the dog all the way around front, letting her onto the front porch (where she sleeps and has her food dish), and then hiking back around the house to get back in ourselves. I finally got the door unstuck. The door knob is toast so I just taped the bloody tongue thing flat and keep the door shut with hope and friction. Note* I will offline from sometime this afternoon until Wednesday. If all goes well (HA!) the next post will be made from my newly installed machine with its cooler-than-cool Wi-Fi connection. However, if the data transfer and installation goes as I believe it will, you will hear from me a week from next Thursday, this being the next available opportunity for me to use the Mini-dunk library's nifty Commodore 64 and its zippy 14k dial-up modem.
