Wolf got suspended from school today. How about that? He beat my record as the youngest member of our extended family to be suspended from school. I got bounced in the latter half of the third grade for leading a sit-in for gender equality in altar attendants. My son got suspended for calling 911 on a whim. Why did Wolf call 911 from the school's parking lot payphone this morning? Beats the crap out of me. I still haven't gotten a sane answer. He did tell a teacher right away. The teacher was able to forestall the arrival of the fuzz, but a car had already been dispatched. Wolf then went hysterical claiming the police would shoot him, K-9 cops would chew him to bits, he'd be thrown in jail and then when I found out about this mess I'd kill him. Wolf was in for a surprise, unlike the easily buffaloed M&Ms (his primary school teachers) these hysterics bought him naught from the intermediate school teachers. They told him to button up and then hustled him straight into the principal's office. The magnitude of Wolf's crime was brought home to him by Principal Hardass. An old school disciplinarian, she didn't care that Wolf was being a shrieky drama queen. Thank God. She just put the hard word on my boy. Told him he'd been a bad citizen. Explained the seriousness of calling in a 911. And then told him he was not allowed to come to school tomorrow. A serious blow, it's Ice Cream Day. While I am chagrinned my kid did such a bonehead thing, I am delighted the staff at the intermediate school isn't going to fall for Wolf's bullshit. I have been trying for years to get his teachers to understand that Wolf will do anything to get his way. He will cry, pout, shriek, bang his head, speak in tongues, hold his breath, stammer out dramatically pitiful mea culpas, wet his pants…if he thinks it'll get him what he wants or will distract from the original naughtiness, my kid will do it. But only when it works. That crap doesn't fly here at home and Wolf gave it up a long time ago. At school though, sheesh. He's been a nightmare. Now finally it looks like we will all be on the same page when it comes to Wolf and his lousy manipulative behavior. Blessed be. I set up a meeting with Principal Hardass on Monday. I wish I knew what her favorite flowers were, I'd bring her some. Here's hoping that Wolf will finally be getting the firm no nonsense discipline and high expectations of good behavior he needs. At school as well as at home. I'd do a happy dance if I could. Nope, still not dancing. Better, though. Cleaned my bathroom. Watered the gardens and indoor plants. Did a little weeding. Got the wayward laundry situation mostly straightened out. Rode herd on Wolf after he got home. No TV. No video games. He had chores. Over and above his usual assignments. (Squishy parents all over the world just fell over with shock. Yes, both my kids have chores. Wolf dusts furniture, empties the dishwasher and tends the pets. Among other things.) I was up and around for a good part of the day. Now I'm wiped. Don't think I'll be paying for it tomorrow. Didn't push too hard, I'm trying to listen closer to my body. Allowing it to tell me when we're a go and when it's time to sit down. Good news! There's nearly ripe tomatoes! YAY! More broccoli is ready to be cut too. No cukes yet, but there's the cutest teeny baby pumpkins. The radishes are kind of a wash. By not thinning them adequately earlier in the season the 'mature' radishes are scrawny. Too crowded for good growth. Well, it's still early in the season. I'll pull these poor stunted ones and plant again. This time I will be ruthless with my sprout culling and leave the radishes plenty of elbow room. Feeling better enough to be hopeful, ~LA
