The Days of Wine and Antibiotics

Might as well face it…I'm addicted to Sims.

A tip of the hat to the late Robert Palmer. If Wolf grows up to be a rocker I imagine he'll be of the Robert Palmer ilk. My younger son is all about things sartorial. He absolutely refuses to wear shorts. He says they are 'dumb pants' and believes only British public school boys should wear them.

So what have I been doing and why am I not writing?

I have been busy. Duh. (Way to state the obvious, LA). Saturday night Mike, Wolf and I went to a pool party at Maureen's. Now that it's pool season this is pretty much an every Saturday night thing. Maureen owns a karaoke set-up and they all get loaded and sing. Other attendees at the shindig were Maureen's best pal, her husband and 6? of their insane horde of children. They got LOTS of kids. Maureen's sister, Penny. And (now follow along here, it gets complex) a couple I knew rather well back in the day. Not as a couple. Their couplehood is a fairly recent vintage. The guy, we'll call him Deuce, was best pals with my bro-in-law back in high school. My little sister's future husband that is, not that he was my BIL back then. Before my sister took up with BIL, I ran with that gang quite a bit. So Deuce married the youngest sister of another of his gang's members. In fact the littlest sister of the guy I dated through most of 8th grade. They divorced after 15 years and 4 daughters. Deuce then married Magdalena, a girl who was in my graduating class. She and I had been pretty good friends. Mags and I had a few adventures of the sort you don't tell your kids about when talking about The Good Old Days. So now Deuce and Mags live on the same cul-de-sac as Maureen. Small world, eh? All this combined history and layering of who knows whom and how we all connect was explained to Mike. Including the tid-bit that I'd made-out with Deuce's brother, Ace. Several times.

I had to tell him, Ace comes to the pool parties sometimes. I mean, we show up and Ace slopes over and says to Mike, "Hey, good to meet ya. Your wife is a hellacious kisser." How am I going to explain fast enough?

I also got so plowed at Maureen's party that I ended up barfing. Neatly. In a box. While I'm upchucking many hands are passing over me and lightly stroking my back. Best Pal, Mags, Penny, and Maureen are all Reiki healers and all but Maureen are licensed massage therapists. Heh. I was literally in good hands.

Sunday was spent groaning, chugging water, and swearing on all the saint's names that I would forever eschew pinot grigio.*

*With conditions. What I meant to swear was that I would eschew pinot grigio on days when I'd had a mushroom burger and a mai-tai for lunch. Seriously bad combo.

Yesterday it was Wolf's turn to barf. He didn't have the pinot or a mai-tai, he has strep. Again. The kid he sits next to on the bus has it and my boy spent yesterday vomiting on upholstered furniture and the good rugs and simmering with a fever.

Took him to the doc's this morning. They ran a bunch of cultures which all came back negative. Apparently I was too quick to bring him in. The doc agreed that Wolf has something, but what it is he didn't know. More tests will be run in the overnight and I'm to call in the morning. The doc did me a prop and wrote the prescription for the amoxicillin anyhow. If it is strep then I can get it filled without having to schlep back to the office with my sick kid in tow. I'm not one of those over-medicators. I don't insist on antibiotics for every illness. But if my son's seatmate on the bus has strep and now my kid is sick, I'm going with the odds.

Way back at the top of this thing I mentioned my Sims. Well howdy dowdy. I installed Sims University a few days ago and all time not devoted to grocery shopping, partying, barfing, and mothering has been spent sending all my little Sim teens off to college. Alex has Sim U installed on his machine too and dig this, I'm better at college life than he is!

It's never too late to have a misspent youth.

Gotta run, toga party at the frat house. ~LA
