A mysterious gardening accident.

This is Spinal Tap.

No results today. A week. Damn. For what it’s worth the doc said it’s likely central nervous Lyme. He didn’t want to guarantee me anything. He was able to tell me my spinal fluid was clear, no sign of any other kind of nasty like meningitis. That’s good.

Doc S is a nice guy. Lisa was not wrong there. The nurses were nice too. One held my hand during the spinal tap and kept talking. I mean, we talked together. Kids, her fading honeymoon tan, anything but the subject of the needle in my back and the goose grease of the central nervous system leaking into a test tube from it.

Doc S didn’t rant at me. Like I said, he was nice. The nurses came back in and told me he was seriously pissed at my GP and the toady resident who saw me in the ER though. One nurse said she’d never seen the doc that mad. I went a little goofy. I thought, “For me? This doctor is angry about inept care on my behalf? Wow. Too bad I’m finished having kids, I’d name one after him.”

He gave me a perscription for a powerful antibiotic to get started on in the mean time. He was honest, if it’s in my central nervous system I’ll have to do the IV. I choked back some crazy noise, I couldn’t tell if it meant to be a cry or a laugh, and said, “Doc, if it’s Lyme and the drugs will let me drive my car again I guarantee you’ll NEVER see anyone happier to have an IV spigot in her arm.” He patted my shoulder. “I just want my life back.” He nodded and said, “We’re going to try.”

That’s all anyone can ask for.

Waiting and hoping, ~LA
