My Unkymood Punkymood (Unkymoods)

Discouraged.

Yesterday wasn't so hot. Literally and figuratively. It was dank and grey and about 50 degrees outside and about the same inside. We're out of fuel oil and decided to just deal with being chilly rather than buy more. It'll warm up for the season soon. I spent the day working on contracts until my hands got too cold to type and then I'd jump up, scoop up some laundry, go process it and come back and type some more.

Along with the contracts, I typed a bunch of second, third, and fourth bills for clients who've decided to not pay. Friday I get to go across the river and file two mechanic's liens at the Duchess County courthouse. Always a thrill. It’s grossly unfair that 4 out every 6 clients try to stiff Mike and of the 4 laggards, usually 2 need the threat of court action or have liens slapped on them before they cough up.

Just more evidence of the “Me first” mentality that has taken over American society. It used to be people were ashamed to owe money. Now dodging bills seems to be a bigger pastime than baseball. And 95% of these bozos that owe Mike HAVE the money. It’s not like they got caught in a bind. They just don’t give a rat’s ass. “Hey, fuck you! I don’t FEEL like paying you. Yeah, you did a great job. Yeah, you finished your work on time. Yeah, you fulfilled your end of the deal. So what? Doesn’t mean I’m under any obligation to keep my end. Kiss my ass, furnace guy. Sue me.”

And so we do.

It’s discouraging and enraging that we are forced to spend time and money just trying to get what’s legally owed us. What’s wrong with people anyway? How have things gone so wrong? There have been times when we’ve paid late. But it was out of necessity, not because we didn’t care. And we’ve NEVER defaulted on anything. It took us 5 long years to dig out of credit hell, but we did it. Except for the mortgage, we don’t owe anybody anything. We drive paid for cars. We have no plastic. And not once did we ever say, “Hey, fuck you. Sue us.”

People just suck, you know that? People suck.

0 Wanna talk about it!
